Practical business calculation
Estimate how long cash can support the current burn
Cash runway divides available cash by net monthly burn when outflows exceed inflows. If inflows meet or exceed outflows, the business is not currently burning cash each month under these assumptions.
Net monthly burn
Outflow minus inflow shows the monthly cash reduction when positive.
Runway in months
Cash balance divided by positive net burn estimates the remaining months.
No current burn
When inflow meets or exceeds outflow, a finite runway is not the right result.
Planning estimate
Cash timing, irregular expenses, and changing assumptions can change the outcome.

How cash runway works
Cash runway is a simple planning ratio. It assumes the entered monthly burn continues and that the available cash balance can be used to cover that burn.
When runway is not finite
If monthly inflow is equal to or greater than monthly outflow, the business is not currently burning cash each month based on the entered figures. That does not guarantee future cash stability.
Use with care
Review upcoming one-time payments, taxes, debt service, seasonality, and collection timing separately. This calculator is not accounting or financial advice.
Example: 5-month runway
Cash balance: $50,000 Monthly inflow: $10,000 Monthly outflow: $20,000 Net burn: $10,000 Runway: $50,000 ÷ $10,000 = 5 months

What if inflow is greater than outflow?
The calculator says there is no current monthly cash burn instead of displaying Infinity.
What if cash balance is zero?
